I haven't posted on this blog in so long. I'm not even sure anyone still reads it! I lost my password and when I tried out everyone one I could think of and none of them worked, I gave up. Well, I gave up after I changed it thinking that would take care of it.....and then it wouldn't accept that either, because I didn't have my original one to change it FROM. Oy!

If you are still around, and would like to shop at the store, I am here on Thursdays and Fridays. My husband has the business next door and will be happy to let you in to shop on a weekend if he is here. Otherwise, my number is on the window and it's there so you can call me if you are here (on a day other than Thursday or Friday) and you'd like to come in and shop. I'm usually pretty nearby and would be happy to open up for you.

I have my scrapbook supplies in the back of the store now, to make room for the Antiques that my husband and I have in the front. We have always loved antiques, and enjoy incorporating them into our building.

You'll find all of the same scrapping supplies as you did before, only more condensed!

Card Inspirations Part 4

Hi! How is everyone doing on their cards today? I have been making them up a storm, and good thing, because I need to get these mailed out soon in time for Christmas!

Today I'll show you a set of 3 cards that I made using Kristina Werner's cards as inspiration. In her project A Year in Cards, she featured these 3 cards.

Hers are on the left, my versions are on the right:

Here is a closer picture of the first card I made:

First, I folded green cardstock into a card. I added a red felt strip to the back of the green polka-dotted square and pop-dotted this onto the bottom of the card base. I next added a wreath cardstock sticker to a red circle, then added this to a white scalloped circle base. I added this to the top left part of the green polka-dotted piece. When I secured this piece, I only added a pop-dot to the back top part of the wreath, and some tape runner to the bottom. This was because the green polka-dotted square was already pop-dotted, and I wanted the top of the wreath to be level with it. Next, I simply stamped "Season's Greetings" along the top right edge of the green polka-dotted piece. Done! So, on this card I used her sketch, a sticker instead of a photo, words stamps instead of an image stamp, changed the colors and didn't add the brads.

On this card, I chose 3 colors that I just love together...pink, turquoise, and red! With some white accents, I just love this card!

First, I made a card base out of white cardstock. I added a piece of turquoise cardstock (just a bit smaller than the base of the card) to the top of it. Next, I added a cardstock sticker of a present to a piece of pink cardstock just slightly larger, and faux stitched around it with a white Uniball gel pen. Then I cut a piece of red scrap paper slightly smaller than the pink square, scalloped the right edge of it, and pop-dotted it to the card top where I wanted. I pop-dotted the pink cardstock piece with the present on it to the red. I used Versamark to stamp my words under the present, then using white embossing powder, heat embossed it to make it stand out and have texture! I then faux stitched around the entire piece of turquoise and I was finished! On this card, I used her sketch, changed the colors, the words and the image.

The last card is really a fun card to look at up close, because of the dimension of Santa behind the scalloped hole!

On this card, I folded the red cardstock into a card that is horizontal looking, but actually opens on the right side. I cut a piece of creamy scrap into a strip for across the front. Along the right side of this I cut out a scalloped circle with my punch. On the first part of the cream strip, I stamped 2 trees and a little reindeer. I pop-dotted this piece to the card front. Next, I stamped the image of Santa on white paper, colored him in, and punched him out using the same scalloped circle as I made the hole with. I adhered him exactly in the same position, only I attached him right onto the red cardstock. So....he is inside the hole. Using a white Uniball gel pen, I faux stitched along the bottom edge and the top edge of the creamy strip. I figured out where I wanted the red and white gingham ribbon to lay, then I cut a slit along the folded edge of the red card base to fit the width of the ribbon. I slid the ribbon through the hole, tied it into a bow (or knot) and I was done. On this card, I used her sketch, changed the images, the colors and the way I made my image inside the hole.

Fun, simple and you can use these as your inspiration!

Card Inspirations Part 3

For today's post, I am going to give you 2 examples of cards I was inspired by, by Kristina Werner. They are both made with a Kraft cardstock base. I love using kraft cardstock as a base because of it's versatility in using color with it. If you've never tried it before, I think you'll like it!

The first is hers, next is mine:

The first thing I did after making the card base, was to round the corners on the right side. Then, I stamped 3 different snowflakes on white cardstock, using 3 different colors of ink for them. I cut around them ....carefully....and pop dotted them on my card base. I used a black Slick writer to draw with, and made hanging strings for the snowflakes, not making them straight, but making them a little loopy...gives them some character. I stamped Happy Holidays on the bottom right corner of the card. Now....I wasn't done yet either. Next, I took Stickles in colors to match my ink, and glittered them little snowflakes to make them Dazzle!!! Here is a close-up of their brilliance Ü:

So, on this card I used her whole sketch, replaced ornaments for snowflake stamps that I had, and changed the word....to one that I had.

Here is the 2nd set of cards I have to show for today's examples:

The reason I made this card is because I had this left over piece of Kraft, and when folded it was this long, skinny shape. Perfect for her card she made! I easily rounded off the 2 bottom corners, glued down 3 graduated sizes of buttons with glue dots, and added a ribbon scarf for the little man. Since my ribbon was red, with white snowflakes on it, I decided to go a bit further and add some red and white snowflakes to my card, too. Then I added some little tri-dots of white to fill in some more. Done!

Now, this is definitely a card that you can make, too.....even your kids can make them up for their friends and family! And doesn't pretty much everyone have some buttons ? Ü

Card Inspirations Pt 2

For Part 2 of this Using Other's Cards for Inspiration, I made this smaller sized card Kristina did. This card was a fun one to copy, because the card is a trifold, and I don't usually make this kind. Here is Kristina's and next to it is mine:

See the window on the front fold, well that one was a bit of a challenge for me. I actually cut out a circle from paper, laid it on top, then cut it out carefully. I don't have a circle cutter (really, I know, I can't believe it either....it is on my Christmas list though!), so I improvised.

First I took my piece of paper, and folded it into 3 sections. I didn't measure, didn't try to be exact. I used a stamp and Versamark to stamp the image all over the front of the card and used some clear embossing powder on them to make them shine.

Next I cut out the front circle, as I metioned above. After cutting out my circle, I cut out another circle from a piece of paper slightly bigger than the hold and used that as my pattern. I traced this onto a piece of patterned paper, and cut it out with a pair of scalloped scissors. I needed to have a hole in the middle of this scalloped circle, to lay over the hole in the front of the card. So, I laid down my pattern of the smaller circle on top and cut it out with scissors. I glued down this scalloped circle over the hole. Now, I faux stitched along the inside edge with a white Uniball Pen.

For the second flap, the one that you can see the image through the hole in the cover, I measured the space and cut a piece of white paper to fit it. I stamped my image, added some Stickles for berries, and faux stitched along the edge.

On the cover, I added a piece of white satin ribbon. I marked where I wanted my ribbon, then along the edge of the card, I made a small slit with my scissors. I threaded the ribbon through the slit, and then tied my ribbon into a bow.

Done!

Fun, simple and you can use this as your inspiration!

Using Other Cards as Inspiration

How many times have you sat down to make a card and.......nothing. You have got no mo-jo? No ideas come to mind and you're in a rut and can't get out of it? One thing I do is to go to other handmade cards I've saved from friends and family, magazines, online galleries and sites to get ideas from.

If you've been in my store and asked where I came up with an idea, sometimes I will say that I got them from online, and I really did. Okay, I can come up with some nice things on my own too, but I get in a rut here and there also and need some ideas! This post is about that...how I take someone else's sketch idea....or color idea....or wording....whatever, and use it as inspiration for my own cards! For this purpose I have taken ideas from Kristina Werner and used them to make my own cards...using HER ideas!! And she has some very nice ones, too!! Some are simple, some are more complicated. The thing is here, to see how she made her card and how I took her idea and used it. You can do the same thing. Look at hers, look at mine and come up with your own. You can do it, really, it's easy!

For all of the cards I will be posting in this series, I used scraps of paper I had. Only 2 sheets of paper were actually cut to be used as cardbases, because I ran out of big pieces.

Here is the first card I'll post today:

I used her card as a sketch idea. I used a kraft cardstock base, put the green square on it which has the top left corner rounded, then underneath the piece of snowflake strip, ( I scalloped the edge of it before adhering). The word NOEL is made using chipboard letters. The snowflake is a punch, a brad is in the center and I pop dotted this piece. "Joyeaux" is handwritten on a small piece of coordinating green aper and pop dotted to the green square. On the left side of the card , I rounded the corners to match the rounded edges on the green square and the scallops underneath. Faux stitching (done with a Uniball pen) finishes the edges off!

See how I used her ideas? I used her layout, the word NOEL and her faux stitching. Fun, simple and you can use this as your inspiration!

Tons of Stamps

First of all I'd like thank all of you who came in and shopped on Black Friday. I know that I am usually not here, but since we sell Christmas trees on our lot here, I was in the store. I hope you all enjoyed your "Thanksgiving Thank You Gift" from me, and you have fun using them on your projects Ü

Do you like Glitter and Sparkle to add to your projects? Check out these colors Ü We have Stickles, fine ultra glitter, silver and gold inkpads and more!!:

How about some silver and gold paper?.......There are also all the colors of the rainbow (including black, silver and white) of glitter paper!!

And last on this post, something very cool for all you stampers out there! Ink Refresher!! How many inkpads or markers have you thrown out because they were too dried up to use? Well, now you can use Ink Refresher to rehydrate them, Yippee...no more wasted inks!! This is how it works: it rehydrates and conditions ink pads and water based markers without reinking. It is suitable for pigment and dye based ink pads, water based markers and rainbow pads! You simply mist the entire surface of your pads and allow to sit a few minutes. For your markers, remove the end plug from the marker or gently pull the nib out. Use an eyedropper to apply the Ink Refresher to the pen reservoir. Then return the plug or nib. Allow a few minutes for the moisture to saturate the ink core. That's it, simple, huh?

Do you have a LOVE of Shiny Brite ornaments like I do? Then, get to Menards as quick as you can, because they are carrying these beauties right now:

Just look at that packaging. Heck, I would have bought just the boxes I am so *happy* with them. Makes me feel like I stepped into an old General Store (maybe Jupiter or Woolworth...) and got them there. You know, back when times were a bit simpler and not so....electronical. Lookie at the side view:I know, not the best pictures. But, this is what I get while trying to quick take a picture before leaving the house, while holding my bag, purse, drink and taking pictures. You get the idea, though. I knew I needed to share with my friends.....

What else is so great you might wonder? They come in 3 sizes, folks!! Yes, 3 lovely sizes, small, medium and big!!! So, if you are at all like me, run...don't walk to Menards as quick as you can!

Banana Bread

Have you ever craved something so bad that you knew you would eat everything else in the house if you didn't get what it was you wanted? That was me, this weekend. I was so hungry for banana bread!! Off to the store I went, and all they had were just ripened bunches. I bought 2, enough for 7 loaves, but they weren't ripe. So I knew it would be a few days before I could get my "fix". For my bread recipe, (which is the best in the world as far as I've ever tasted), I have to have a fresh orange to grate the rind off of. This store only sold oranges in bags, and hey, since I was really craving bananas and NOT oranges, I knew the rest of the bag would be wasted. So, off to a 2nd store I went. Now, I don't shop at this store often, and didn't ever expect them to have over-ripe bananas by the bag....but they did! So, I bought 3 bags of them. Yes, I was craving I said!!

This is what is left of the 2nd loaf I made:

But did I stop there? Ohhhh nooooo.....I made up 6 more batches and froze them Ü All different sizes, too.....small loaves, medium sized and regular. I am ready for more cravings I tell you.

Here is the recipe in case anyone else is craving banana bread and would like a good tried and true recipe ...

Banana Bread

3 medium ripe bananas

1/3 Cup shortening

2/3 Cup sugar

2 eggs

1/4 Cup orange juice

1 tsp. freshly grated orange rind

1 3/4 C flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

Mix the shortening and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time until smooth. Add the orange juice, rind and bananas and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add this dry mix to the wet mix. Stir well. Pour into greased bread pan. Cook 350* for 1 hour.

~~If you want to make small loaves, this recipe will make 3... only cook for 40 min.

~~If you want to make medium loaves, this recipe will make 2... only cook for 50 min.

I thought about what to post today, and this came to mind. You know how on your day off from work, you really want to get something done that needs to get done....feel that accomplishment from your day? I did that on Saturday. It felt so good. I canned these pretties:

41 jars of canned tomatoes, what a nice feeling. This weekend I'm doing up 100 lbs. of potatoes, I can't wait to see them in jars, too!

Some fun news....every Monday will be Make 'n Take Monday!!! Yes, they are back in the store! I had a lot of you ask for this again, and so I will start it this coming week. I will be designing a new card, tag or other project for each Monday. You'll have to stop in each week and for just $1.00 (or ocassionally slightly more depending on the project), you can make and take one home! No need to make a reservation, just come on in. Make one or more, until the supplies run out!

Here is the card for the Make n Take on Monday, 05 Oct.. It's just a buck. Make one or make two...they're still just a buck each!

Also Coming Soon!!---Back by Request!!!---Card /Layout/Project Classes!!

Card classes are back and they are a great way to build up your stash. I have been planning and designing what I hope will be a great selection of cards you'll enjoy making and giving. Don't ever be caught without a card again.

Classes will be held every other Thursday night beginning the 15th of October. Again, it will be the same as before, with a minimum of 4 guests, and pre-pay is required. You will receive a 10% off your purchases the night of the class or crop! See class sheet for more info.

There will also be Crop Nights on alternate Thursdays!! Bring your projects you are

working on, and we'll have some fun while getting our things done together. The cost will be $5 per person. Bring along a friend, heck....they don't need to be scrapbookers or card makers, they can still come and work on their projects, too!! The more the merrier! You all will receive 10% off of your purchases during crop night!

New Calendar and Other Stuff

Hi everyone!

I know, I know, this should have been posted before now. We have our Daughter Graduating this month, and who knew all of the preparing, planning, scheduling, buying, making, mailing, etc. etc. that would need to be done??? Bear with me folks, this is our first time at this, and we're trying to make it all work. It's a busy time, but a good time for us.

This is my 3rd time writing this post, everytime I hit the Publish Post button, something goes funky and my post isn't being posted. Not sure what's going on, but hopefully this one will make it. Of course, in my first post it was extremely well written, prepared and professional sounding. The second one was filled with much less wit. This 3rd one is going to be lucky to make it at all. Ü

If you look to the right and click on the word Calendar, you will find what I have come up with for the month of May. It includes everything I wanted to have, except for the rules of the contest, which follow:

*I will have 2 kits up for sale, one for cards, and one for layouts.
*After purchasing a kit, you take it home, and bring me back a creation you have made with it!
I will hang it up for the rest of the month of May, and all of June, after which you may come and get it back. Of course, if you'd like to make a nice color copy of your original, you can come in at the beginning of June and we'll trade Ü.
*The winners will be announced on Sunday, May 31st.
*The Winners of each category will receive a $25 Gift Certificate to Paper Creations.

I will not be judging, so no amount of bribery will make you a shoe-in for winner.

Okay. Maybe a piece of chocolate silk pie or banana creme pie from Perkins will.

Sign Outside

Hi everyone!

Outside of my store, there is a big yellow sign that I change out often with the different classes/sales etc. coming up. Many of you have asked why it has stayed the same for so long. Well, with our wonderful weather here, and the ice we've had....it has frozen my letters into my sign holder. Every time I've tried to get them out, they've snapped in half. =(

Today I am going to attempt to remove the ones in there (since it's warming up nicely), and change the sign and put the next classes coming up. So, please keep your eyes out for new classes coming up and check back here often Ü

Ever wonder how to use your scraps?

I will be having some classes on just that!

This first class will be a card class, and I'll show you 6 different cards to make using your scraps!

"Use Your Scraps Card Class"
Tuesday, the 10th of February, 2009 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Make 6 cards for $10.00

Class size is limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. You must pre-register and pre-pay for all classes.

*Class fee covers teacher and supplies used to create the project for that class. You will need to bring a cutter and various adhesives.
*Class participants will receive 10% off all purchases during classes, with the exception of sale items and consigment items.
*If you do not show for your class, there will be no refund. *Children under 12 are not permitted during a class. Children 12 and older may attend classes as a paying customer.
*It takes 4 students for a class to make, so sign up with a friend!
*If a class does not make, we will notify you 48 hours in advance of the cancellation. *Cancellations must be make 48 hours in advance of the class to receive a refund.

Hi Everyone! How about a really fun sale????

Hi everyone! I know it's been a few days since I've posted, I've been busy making up cards for this next upcoming class. I love Valentines Day, don't you? What a great time to let loved ones know without a doubt how much they mean to you!

Each month I will put together an assortment of papers and embellishments and make a kit out of it. You never know what might be in it, but you can be sure that it will be a kit of fun, yummy items!

Some of the pieces may differ slightly from what is in the picture, but you will always get the same amount of items! For example, if I only had 5 Love charms, I would substitute with some Cherish charms.

Don't worry if you haven't used a rub-on before and you don't know what to do with them. They are the easiest things to use. Use them where you would use a sticker. You simply lay the part down on top of the paper that you want to use, rub over the design with the included tool, and the image transfers from the paper it's on directly onto your project! In starting this Store blog, I hope to be able to reach more of my customers and meet their needs. I have been asked about my classes and crops and this way I will be able to post and keep them more informed of them, without them having to come in or call (isn't the internet a wonderful thing?). There will be in store specials and sales and I will tell you all about them here, too. (Speaking of which....there will be a huge sale for everyone coming up after the new year sometime...more on that then!).
